Responsible AI in African economic policymaking, By Rob Floyd & Olamide Goriola (OECD)
AI has the potential to revolutionize economic policymaking in Africa, but responsible and ethical adoption is crucial. African countries are starting to regulate AI through strategies and regulations, and responsible AI principles need to be tailored to the continent's unique socio-economic and cultural landscape. These principles should prioritize inclusivity, address challenges in rural and urban areas, and empower marginalized communities. African governments should establish clear guidelines and standards for responsible AI in economic decision-making, involve diverse stakeholders, and aim to drive meaningful transformation for the well-being of African citizens. AI can significantly enhance economic policymaking in Africa.
