By mid-century, only about half of past and potential Winter Olympic host cities may remain climate-reliable. As warming winters disrupt snow seasons and other effects of climate change such as extreme heat and floods pose additional risks to sporting events, the viability of a $2.3 trillion global sports economy, projected to reach $8.8 trillion by 2050, increasingly depends on low-carbon infrastructure, adaptive scheduling and coordinated public–private action. Learn more
