Statement by High Representative Catherine Ashton on the foiled plot to assassinate the Saudi Ambassador to the US

 Catherine Ashton, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Commission Vice-President, made the following statement today:
" It was with very grave concern that I learned of the alleged participation of two Iranian individuals in a foiled plot to kill the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the United States.
Even more disturbingly, I have also been informed that formal charges have been brought against a member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, as well as an Iranian-American citizen.
This would constitute a major breach of international law, with serious international implications.
I am following developments closely and remain in contact with the US authorities. "
